Her kidneys did not recover when she contracted a septic infection and was diagnosed with numerous organ malfunctions. It was then a regimen of hemodialysis, followed by peritoneal dilution. After spending 80 consecutive days in the hospital, from the point of death to a long journey to recovery she finally returned home, but her life was forever changed. Angelica's life forever altered after her dialysis of the kidney. She would receive the donated kidney from her mom. Angelica Hale was able to undergo a kidney transplant alongside her mother on the 13th of September, 2013. The operation was carried out in Emory University Hospital, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston.
